Online reports claim that Amazon is closing in on a possible deal to acquire the mobile chip business of TI.

This is pretty surprising even though Amazon has their own hardware product range that uses the same type of chips.

Amazon Kindle eBooks and Tablets has become a pretty big business for the company. But it still does not make sense for them to enter the mobile chip market which require massive investments.

TI had recently said that they are looking to sell-off this division to focus on more profitable ventures.

Any deal for their mobile chip division would probably be in multi-billion dollars. Apple is more suitable for such an acquisition.
