This month we’ve decided to do a review of the most popular Anime websites, and today we are beginning with Anime Freak.
What is Anime Freak?
Anime Freak TV is an indexing service. They provide links to different sites where the Anime content is available to stream. In this way, this website does not have to host the material itself; it merely provides an orderly place where you can search for links to episodes and Anime series and where these are arranged in a neat and easy to use way.
The site cannot be considered to be family friendly. Sure, they host harmless cartoons suitable for children such as Pokemon and Dragon Ball. However, you will also find Anime series here with more adult themes. Some of the Anime contain sex and violence and are not suitable for under 18s. Also, some of the adverts on the site link to places on the web that are certainly less than wholesome.
Aside from acting as an indexing service, the site also hosts Japanese manga. These are comic books illustrated in the Japanese style. Much famous Anime series will also have their Manga.

How do I view Anime on Anime Freak?
Navigating the website is rather simple actually. Navigate to the Anime List page and select the one you want from this list. They are listed here in alphabetical order. Once you have clicked on the Anime series, you want to watch you will be taken to a landing page that explains the type of show it is, how many episodes there are, plot summary and languages available for this Anime.
Go ahead and then select the episode you want to watch from the sidebar on the right. Start from episode 1 if this is your first time seeing the series. You’ll find that the video player will appear, then select your language and press play.
It’s also really handy to use their search bar at the top right-hand side of the homepage to find the Anime series you are looking for.

Quality of Playback
The quality of streams on here is pretty decent. However, a few, times we have found that the video will stop after a while or that it won’t load the entire episode. This is a pretty common problem you’ll come across on most of these streaming sites. Often it is due to a loss of connection to your wireless modem, or it can be an issue with Adobe Flash player. From years of streaming Anime, we have developed the following troubleshooting routine to tackle this. The best thing to do in most cases is to entirely clear your browser cache.
- Try pressing Ctrl + F5 at the same time when you are on the page, and then give the video stream another go. If this doesn’t work then try step 2.
- Entirely restart your browser. Don’t just refresh the page, because this won’t work.
- Try watching the video in a different browser (Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox, Chrome). To do this just copy and paste the link from the address bar into another open browser.
- Finally, if it is still not working, then you can report the link broken using the report link button.
Broken Links
If you press plays on a video and it fails to load after 30 seconds, it may have been deleted by the host site. This is known as a “broken link.” When a certain link becomes more popular, it will come to the attention of the copyright holder, or an agency working on behalf of the copyright holder of that Anime. The website will then get a letter or email ordering them to take down the copyright material or face a hefty fine.
The streaming sites almost always comply. Their business model is to delete a link, but then re-upload it somewhere else. This means that the links that Anime Freak provide must constantly be updated, but that’s just the nature of the link. If you find a broken link, just report it. It will help everyone and allow them to keep their site functional.
These guys are amazing at what they do and replace up to 500 broken links every day!

Is the Anime dubbed?
Most of the Anime hosted at Anime Freak is not dubbed into English. Around about 5% of the videos here are dubbed, with the remaining 95% in Japanese with subtitles.
These guys are great at providing dubs compared to many other similar sites. They try and provide the dubbed version for series’ where it is available. You’ll find orange tabs above the video player that allow you to switch from English Subbed to English Dubbed. However, if there are no tabs, then, unfortunately, there is no dubbing for that episode currently on the site.
For the most recent episodes, you’re not likely to find a dubbed version. This is because dubbed versions tend to be made 4 or 5 months after the initial Japanese release. So if you are watching a series where new episodes are coming out in Japan, don’t expect the dubbed version to come out straight away. When the dubbed version is available, you can rely on Anime Freak to have it fast enough.
Security
Norton security gives this site an OK rating. It has 3/5 stars with the Norton community. Some reviewers advise caution. It is probably recommended to have the latest anti-malware and anti-virus installed. Also, just try to use common sense. Don’t click on any download buttons, and if anything does download from a pop-up, then don’t run or execute the file, just delete it. Using an ad-blocker will also help reduce the number of intrusive ads you should get from the third party links.
On myWOT.com Anime freak has a rating of 93% trustworthiness and 88% for child safety. It is considered to be a “safe site” regarding safety.
Conclusion
I hope you guys find this review useful. We’ve concluded that this website has a decent library of Anime series’ available and they tend to update their library and get rid of broken links regularly. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
