AllThingsD has reported that New York Times is close to selling their About.com division to Answers.com.

This deal could be worth around USD 270 million. It is still going to be a huge loss for the company as they had purchased it for around USD 410 million back in 2005.

About.com is dependent upon search engines like Google for traffic and bulk of revenues are generated from advertising.
