YouTube response:
We are working with Apple to ensure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users.
Apple has now confirmed that iOS 6 would not ship with YouTube mobile app. Google would provide an independent app through the Apple App Store.
Statement:
Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store.
9to5 Mac has reported that Apple seems to have removed the YouTube app in the latest beta of their iOS 6.
This could just be a mistake on Apple’s part as the beta builds are only provided to developers.
Google might be working on updating the app to make it compatible with this latest beta build of iOS.
For now, this is good enough to cause enough controversy online about whether Apple is going to ditch YouTube in iOS 6.
Google Maps of course is already being replaced by Apple Maps in this update.
YouTube does not really have a competitor in the market. Vimeo etc. are too small in comparison.
