BBC to start supporting HTML5 for video on their website and mobile apps


BBC has announced that they are going to start supporting HTML5 videos on their websites in the coming months.

They are also going to start using HTML5 video in their mobile apps to negate the need for Adobe Flash Player which is being discontinued for smartphones.

The company would however continue to use Adobe Flash technology for compatibility reasons.

Remains to be seen how long before they are ready to give up on Adobe Flash platform completely.

HTML5 video has become a very widely supported format. A lot of credit goes to Apple for not supporting Adobe Flash platform on their iOS devices.
