Research in Motion now applying content ratings on apps on their Blackberry App World

Surprisingly, RIM’s Blackberry App World has not featured content ratings for the apps available through it until now.

Research in Motion is now fixing it by allowing developers to give ratings to their mobile apps available through this store.

The company has for now given an automated rating to all the apps. Developers can apply for a change if they think that the system had made an error.

RIM would soon make it possible for users to filter out apps based on these content ratings.

RIM said:

On the BlackBerry smartphone side, we’ll be launching a client update on December 15th, 2011 that will enable consumers to set a rating filter. Once the filter is set, only content of the specified ratings will be displayed to the consumer when they browse or search the BlackBerry App World catalog.

The default rating filter in BlackBerry App World is set to “Adult” – which is all content in the BlackBerry App World storefront. This means that when consumers upgrade, they’ll still see your apps and themes – nothing to worry about.
