Research in Motion is expected to launch a 4G edition of their Blackberry Playbook this month.
Blackberry Playbook has not been a success for the company. We have already seen RIM selling it at heavy discounts to clear old stocks.
The 4G edition is also unlikely to become a major success considering the competition in the market.
Apple iPad is already the market leader in this segment of the market. Amazon Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7 are dominating the lower-end of the market.
This new variant of the Playbook is likely to support 4G LTE in addition to HSPA+ and Wi-Fi. It is expected to be powered with an improved 1.5GHz dual core processor. Sources say that RIM would price it at around USD 550 for the contract-free model.
The current generation models are priced at USD 199, USD 249 and USD 299 for the 16GB, 32GB and the 64GB editions.
