Canonical offering an interesting donation page when you download Ubuntu

Canonical has announced that they have made some changes to their download section.

Users are shown a donation page when they download the desktop edition of Ubuntu.

This donation page is purely optional and the user can skip it to continue downloading.

Canonical has made this donation page pretty interesting as users can decide how much they want to donate to individual development team working on Ubuntu.

Basically, they can decide where their donations go! They can for example donate more to the team that works on the Ubuntu Desktop. Other sections include: performance optimization for games/apps, improvements to hardware support, team working on phone and tablet edition and so on.

The company makes it clear though that Ubuntu would remain free forever:

Ubuntu will always be free to use, share and develop. We hope it will continue to give you everything you want in an operating system – and we hope that you’ll join us in helping to build the future of computing, however you choose to contribute.
