China has now overtaken USA to become the world’s largest smartphone market.

China is of course already the world’s largest mobile market.

Strategy Analytics said in a report that China saw shipments of 24 million smartphones in the most recent quarter. In comparison USA saw shipments of around 23 million units.

China managed to overtake USA largely because of the cheap Android based devices that have become immensely popular there.

The report further said that the shipments in China are up 58% while they dropped by around 7% in the US market.

Nokia surprisingly dominates China in this segment of the mobile market. Samsung is second.
