Cisco plans to challenge Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype
Cisco has revealed that they would challenge the Skype acquisition by Microsoft.
The company said that they are not against the deal but want the company to support interoperability to ensure that Skype does not end up becoming a monopoly for video communications in the future.
Cisco has their own video conferencing platform named WebEx. The company aims to have a scenario where different platforms can communicate with each other enabling users to pick the choice of service they want.
The company said: “Cisco does not oppose the merger, but believes the European Commission should have placed conditions that would ensure greater standards-based interoperability.”
Cisco further said: “Making a video-to-video call should be as easy as dialing a phone number. Today, however, you can’t make seamless video calls from one platform to another, much to the frustration of consumers and business users alike.”
