CloudFlare launches I’m Under Attack Mode for protection when you are being DDoSed

CloudFlare has announced the launch of a brand new feature named ‘I’m Under Attack Mode’.

This feature is designed to be used at times when you know that you are being attached through DDoS.

CloudFlare spoke about the steps they take when this mode is on:

The name is pretty self-explanatory: it’s a new security level you can set for your site when you’re under attack. The effect is that we will add an additional set of protections to stop potentially malicious HTTP traffic from being passed to your server. While we perform a number of additional checks, the only thing noticeable to legitimate visitors to your site is that when they first arrive they’ll see an interstitial page for about 5 seconds while checks are complete.

Visitors are shown a temporary page like this while the service checks if the hit is genuine or not:

The company indicated that they would still let search engine spiders and whitelisted IPs to go through so there are no reasons not to try this mode in times of trouble.
