CloudFlare testing mobile redirect feature for paying customers

CloudFlare has just revealed a brand new feature that is undergoing beta testing right now.

This new feature would let the user set a mobile version of the website in the CloudFlare backend.

CloudFlare would handle the redirection based on the device used by the visitor.

This means that you would no longer have to care about detecting user agent yourself to redirect the user to the mobile edition of your website. CloudFlare would take over that responsibility.

The company said that this feature would only be available to paying subscribers who created an account directly with them instead of through a hosting partner.

This seems like a good feature. I used to use plugins and they didn’t always work. How would this work with multiple sites/sub domains though? Would they all direct to one site, of have you options?

Also, with a lot of sites becoming responsive it seems they launched this feature a little too late :(

Righto. It is pretty much a redundant feature for anyone with an existing mobile strategy. But I guess it saves them the hassle of keeping the browser detection script updated with new devices and platforms launching on a regular basis?

Very true I suppose, although I’lm a free user myself; it would be nice to see how this future evolves.
After reading a book about it, I do believe the “Mobile First Responsive” strategy is a very good one, especially for blogs (and future devices with various screen sizes)! I can see where perhaps, business sites would find this useful though

Yup. Should come handy for businesses who have struggled to get it right :P
