ComScore has stated in a report that Gmail has overtaken Hotmail to become the web’s most popular webmail service.
This data is based on their estimates on the number of unique visitors to these services. Gmail logged 287.9 million visitors compared to 286.2 million for Hotmail.
Yahoo Mail was at third place last month with 281.7 million unique visitors.
Google already claims that Gmail is the web’s most popular webmail service though their statement is not verified by a third party source.
Hotmail of course now has a new avatar in the form of Outlook.com. It is not clear if ComScore took into consideration the visitors who are now using Outlook.com over Hotmail.com. But then both the services are run on Live.com domain so we assume that the data include visitors to both the services.
