English is no longer the dominant language on Twitter

Semiocast has published a report which claims that English today forms less than 50% of all tweets posted on the Twitter network.

English is no longer the dominant language on Twitter

This means that majority of tweets are now in other languages. English remains the dominating force with around 39% market share.

Japanese comes at the second spot with around 14% tweets.

The report also said that around 0.5% tweets are currently in mandarin despite the fact that Twitter is blocked in China.

Twitter is perhaps the best example of how a web based service can be adopted globally with each user establishing their own purpose out of it!
