Facebook admits that around 8.7 percent of accounts on their network are probably fake

Facebook has admitted in a filing with SEC that around 8.7% accounts on their network are probably fake.

The company said that they have categorized these accounts into three sections:

Duplicate Accounts
Misclassified Accounts
Undesirable Accounts

Facebook added:

We believe the percentage of accounts that are duplicate or false is meaningfully lower in developed markets such as the United States or Australia and higher in developing markets such as Indonesia and Turkey.
