Facebook might have acquired Gowalla!

Fresh rumor today. Facebook might have acquired Gowalla.

The two companies are not confirming the deal right now but an official announcement could come soon.

Gowalla originally was a check-in service but it failed to compete with the newer player in town Foursquare.

It pivoted and became a hybrid travel guide enabling people to explore destinations. This could point at the features that Facebook might be considering adding next to their own platform.

Foursquare of course allows you to check-in to places using their mobile apps already.

We wonder if Gowalla mobile app would continue to remain available or Facebook would kill it just like most other services they acquired in the past.
