Online sources are reporting that Facebook is working with HTC on their own smartphone.

This is likely to be powered with a modified edition of Android. Facebook has been hiring a lot of Apple employees who worked on the iPhone previously.

Facebook already has mobile apps on all the major mobile platforms. But having their own customized mobile platform would give them more control over the devices sold in the market.

Generating revenues from mobile devices has become a priority for the company as majority of their users access their service from phones and tablets.

HTC of course has already launched a couple of Android smartphones with dedicated Facebook button on them. These have not been very successful.
