Facebook Messenger for Android no longer requires a Facebook account


Facebook has made a significant change their Messenger for Android app. the company has announced that this app would no longer require a Facebook account to function.

Users can create an account based on their name and mobile number. The app would then see who in their contacts has the app installed and let them communicate.

This opens the app to even more users who do not necessary want to connect the app to their Facebook account or do not have a Facebook account.

The company said:

An update to Messenger for Android is available today, and Messenger accounts will become available over the next few weeks.
