Facebook has rolled out major updates to the Nearby feature on their mobile apps for Google Android and Apple iOS platforms.

Facebook Nearby is a competing platform to Foursquare Explore and Yelp like services.

Facebook highlighted the major enhancements:

Facebook Nearby would help you in exploring new places in your locality based on likes and shares from your friends and family.

You can also share your favorite places like restaurants and rate them based on your experiences.

The recommendations are personalized based on your own and your friend’s activities on Facebook Places.

The company added:

This is an early release and there’s lots more to do. Results will get better the more people use Nearby, and we’ll continue to improve it based on feedback. We also plan to add places info from third party services in the near future.
