Facebook, Twitter and MySpace releases Focus on the user Bookmarklet for Google Search
Some developers of Facebook, Twitter and MySpace collaborated together in creating a new bookmarklet named ‘don’t be evil’ as part of a project named ‘Focus on the user’.
This bookmarklet would enhance the social results shown on Google search result pages.
Instead of just showcasing content from Google Plus network, it would add content from other networks like Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr etc.
The developers said:
We created a tool that uses Google’s own relevance measure—the ranking of their organic search results—to determine what social content should appear in the areas where Google+ results are currently hardcoded.
All of the information in this demo comes from Google itself, and all of the ranking decisions are made by Google’s own algorithms. No other services or APIs are accessed.
They have open sourced the code for others to check out and extend it.
