GitHub upgrades their code search to make it more useful

GitHub has announced some major updates to their code search.

The company said that the new engine uses ElasticSearch cluster that indexes the code in near real time to show the most up to date results.

Private code would be shown if the user has rights to access that project.

The company added:

To ensure better relevancy, we’re being conservative in what we add to the search index. Repository forks will not be searchable unless the fork has more stars than the parent repository, for example.

The search page has also been redesigned. If the user is logged in, he can use the built-in command bar to search!
