Google Docs get improved support for importing and exporting Microsoft Office files

Google Docs might no longer support exporting files in older Microsoft Office formats but they are continuing to work on improving the overall user experience.

Google Drive team has just revealed that they have rolled out major updates related to support for Microsoft Word and Excel files.

Users would benefit while importing and exporting files in Word and Excel formats.

The company said:

Now, when converting a Microsoft Excel file to a Google spreadsheet, you’ll be able to import embedded pictures - plus radar and stock charts. When you’re exporting to XLSX, charts will be exported as native charts, and your chartsheets will export properly. Additionally, your pivot tables will be fully imported and exported, except for those pivot table features not supported in Google spreadsheets. When you convert a Microsoft Office file to a Google document, you’ll notice that fonts, document background, table borders, and Equations are imported more seamlessly, too.

Google needs to do more work on this front if they want more people to start using their online platform. File format compatibility remains one of the biggest problems for users trying to migrate their existing data to Google Docs.
