Google Drive likely to offer 5GB free storage

Google Drive is rumored to be close to launch and we now have some fresh rumors about what it is going to offer.

Online sources say that the service would offer 5GB of free storage. This is more than what Google Docs file manager offers (1GB). It is also more than the free storage offered by Dropbox (2GB). But it is very little compared to what Microsoft SkyDrive offers.

Google Drive likely to offer 5GB free storage

Google Drive is likely to offer Dropbox like features with desktop apps for file syncing. SkyDrive is also going to offer a similar app in the future which makes us wonder how Google Drive would succeed with 20% of the storage offered for free accounts.

Dropbox is the biggest loser in the whole scenario. Paid storage is very expensive on Dropbox. Google offers paid storage at reasonable prices (25 cents per GB per year). 25GB on SkyDrive is more than enough for most users. Things are getting very interesting in the cloud storage market.
