Google gains Gmail trademark in Germany

Google has finally managed to get the trademark to the term Gmail in the German market.

The company has also acquired the domain name Gmail.de from its previous owner.

Google had tried to do the same originally when Gmail was launched. But they were unsuccessful. This forced them to offer the service as Google Mail in Germany through the domain googlemail.com.

It is unlikely anything would change for the Gmail users in the country. Google and the original owner of the trademark Daniel Giersch have not revealed the financial details of their deal.
