Google updates the policy governing the charges for using their Maps API

Google recently announced that they are going to charge third party services for using their Maps API.

This because a cause of concern for services that offered their services for free or very low costs.

Google Maps API does offer a reasonable free package and the company said that only high traffic sites would be affected by the change.

The company has now updated the terms of the pricing policy which should make a lot of developers happy.

Google said that services that see a short term spike resulting in overuse would not be affected by the change. They are only going to enforce the limit on services that continue to break the limit for 90 consecutive days.

Google has also announced that Maps API applications developed by non-profit organizations catering to public interest would also be exempt. Applications based in countries where they are not accepting payments currently would also be exempt. These cases would be dealt with individually.
