Hewlett Packard indicates smartphones are on their roadmap once again

Hewlett Packard at one point of time made devices based on Windows CE. The company later on acquired Palm and launched a couple of webOS based smartphones and Tablets.

Palm webOS failed to generate much excitement in the market and the company dumped everything.

Parts of webOS are being released to the open source community. Their smartphone and tablet models have been discontinued.

The company has however stated that they are considering re-entering the smartphone market.

HP CEO Meg Whitman said in a statement:

We did take a detour into smartphones and we’ve got to get it right this time. And so, my mantra to the team is: ‘Better right than faster than we should be there.’ So we’re working to make sure that when we do this, it will be the right thing for Hewlett-Packard and we will be successful.

It would be interesting to see what route they take. Use webOS again or switch to Android for their models.
