Hewlett Packard has finally decided what they are going to do with webOS that they purchased from Palm.
The company has revealed that they are going to open source it. The idea is to let the development continue on this mobile platform.
This would make it a viable alternative to Google Android which is also sort of open source though Google retains control over their own apps on this platform.
MeeGo was another open source platform which is being replaced by Tizen now. Samsung is also rumored to be considering open sourcing their Bada mobile platform.
Remains to be seen of webOS would remain relevant enough in the coming years to become a viable smartphone and Tablet platform.
