HTC Desire HD is not getting Android Ice Cream Sandwich update

HTC has officially confirmed that they are not going to deliver the Android ICS update on their HTC Desire HD smartphone.

HTC Desire HD is a pretty old device considering the way Android has been growing.

It was announced in September 2010 and was a successful model for the company.

HTC spoke about why they are not going to be able to deliver ICS for this phone:

After extensive testing, we’ve determined that the current version of HTC Sense with Android provides customers with the best experience on the HTC Desire HD. When we consider new versions of software, we weigh a number of factors, but ultimately the customer experience on the product is the deciding factor. We apologize for any confusion this change may have caused our customers.

It is the usual excuse given by Android manufacturers when they announce that a particular model is not going to get an important update. In reality, HTC Sense is heavy enough to make sure that the performance on older models is not going to be appreciated.

This model was originally included in the list of devices which were to get the ICS update officially. HTC promised something and they are now admitting their failure to deliver it. Just because they would not release an updated build of Android without their own customized skin.
