HTC replacing One S units with chipping issue for free
HTC has stated that they are going to offer free replacements to customers who are facing chipping issues on their One S units.
The problem has been reportedly widely online and this has forced the company to take this action.
HTC One S body is made up of aluminum which has been hardened using a special micro arc oxidation process. It was supposed to be very strong in nature though the company has admitted that it does not make it scratch proof.
The official statement from HTC:
HTC is committed to delivering a high quality product and great experience for all our customers. There have been a few, isolated reports of this issue. The finish on the One S was laboratory tested as being at a hardness similar to ceramic. While that’s hard, it doesn’t mean it’s impossible to damage. Regardless, HTC takes quality very seriously and are providing all customers with an immediate fix and we are implementing some small changes to ensure customers do not experience this issue in the future.
The bigger question is whether this replacement program is going to be available in all markets or not. Getting your defective phone replaced in USA or European markets is not very hard. But here in India? It requires dealing with service centers. Thankfully One S is not officially launched here.
