Hyundai India has said that they are still working on sourcing a diesel engine for their i10 hatchback.

The company needs a cheap diesel hatch to compete against the likes of Swift Diesel and Indica Diesel.

The high cost of petrol in India means that a lot of car buying customer prefer to go for the diesel option.

Hyundai already has excellent diesel options in the premium hatch market with i20. Hyundai Verna also sells most of the units with the diesel engine.

Maruti has access to a single diesel engine which they use to power multiple models.
