IBM to contribute to Apache OpenOffice
IBM has announced that they are pretty much discontinuing their Lotus Symphony suite.
The company would move their enhancements back to Apache OpenOffice and focus on it in the future.
IBM said: “This will likely be the last release of IBM’s own fork of the OpenOffice codebase. Our energy from here is going into the Apache OpenOffice project.”
The company said that they are going to offer an IBM optimized edition of OpenOffice as an update for the current users of Lotus Symphony.
IBM added: “We are looking at how to extend our Symphony LotusScript support to the Apache OpenOffice code in the future.”
OpenOffice of course already has another fork that goes by the name of LibreOffice which has become the popular alternative to Microsoft Office in the market.
