Instagram has announced that they have been chosen by Apple as their App Store Rewind 2011 iPhone App of the Year.

The company said:

We are honored to have been chosen and wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the importance of our passionate and dedicated community. Over the past year, this community has grown to over 14 million users, together posting 400 million images from around the world.

Instagram has dominated the photo sharing scene on the mobile market with their sole app for the Apple iPhone platform.

The good news is that they are working on a version for Google Android devices which should be out in a couple of months’ time.
