Jetpack 2.0.1 comes with bug fixes related to Photon and Publicize

Jetpack 2.0 was a major update with tons of new solid features. WordPress.com developers have now released a bug fix edition.

Jetpack 2.0.1 is now available as an update for all existing users. Changelog mainly consist of bug fixes and some user suggested improvements:

Photon

Avoid distorting images that don’t have explicit width and height set, or that only have one dimension specified.
When images are linked to their full-size versions, also serve the full-size versions from the WordPress.com CDN.
If an image is already processed with Photon, don’t reprocess it.
Add support for the Lazy Load plugin.
Unbreak smilies.

Publicize

If a site has custom shortlink settings, use those rather than always using wp.me.
Disable the Publicize interface for any posts already publicized to reduce confusion.
Link to connected LinkedIn profiles on the connections screen.
Improve error handling.

Infinite Scroll

Child themes now support Infinite Scroll if the parent theme does.
Archives now properly load only posts that would be shown if Infinite Scroll wasn’t present.
Link to support documentation within the module when the active theme doesn’t support Infinite Scroll.

The frustrating thing for me is, this plugin fails to auto-update! :(

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

Yeah noticed that the update message did not appear immediately. But I was able to auto-update it from the WordPress backend just fine!

My issue is with the plugin itself - I did a bulk update once (about 5 plugins) Jetpack failed to update and ever since then every time I press update it does nothing!
I just have to download and upload via FTP :(

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

wow. that’s weird because WordPress has practically made this process problem free! maybe try disabling the plugin. deleting it and going through the install process from scratch?

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

Tried that, disabled, uninstalled, re-installed, still the same issue!
I was starting to wonder if something in the Database was causing it, as some plugin settings are saved. I just wouldn’t know where to begin

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

      True.

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

Ah well, time to start the FTP - I wouldn’t bother, but I’m glad for the publicize update. I didn’t use it because a) There were no custom shortlinks b) No option for custom hashtags.

As for infinite scrolling, I hope this fixes some issues I have with the share buttons…

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

How do you enable custom shortlinks?

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

Urm… I did this a while back, I use YOURLs with my own domain - Otto posted a nice explanation. But there are plugins around for other services :)

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

Ah cool. I would have liked if it had an option to deliver the proper URL itself to Twitter. Twitter displays them nicely.

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

The publicize feature? I never thought of that. If you disable WP.me shortlinks does in not just go to site[.]com/?p=1 (or whatever that format is). I’m sure it used to! Unless I had a plugin for that

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

ooh. right. just disabled wp.me feature in jetpack. would have to make a new post to see if it sends the proper url to twitter!

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

You could use the get_shortlink feature to test, instead of posting?

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

haha. no hurries. i would have a new blog post ready sooner or later :)

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

Well I hope it works out! If not, it might have been a plugin. I can’t remember, it was a while back. If you use your own share buttons you could add the short URL to one of those, see if it works - haha!

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

you were right. it is now using index.php based url. http://www.twitter.com/techwhack/status/271034101199429632 not sure if i like it :P

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

Haha, I’m not sure of any other work-arounds to display the full URL. It’s a shame the Tweet button doesn’t automatically pick-up the short URL

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

righto. i guess i would keep it like this. at least the sharing
on Facebook is pretty nicely processed!

    • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

Yeah - You’ve been using it for that already, haven’t you?

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

i was using dlvr.it earlier. it fails with image preview almost all the times. wordpress.com does it much better. but then i do not really care about facebook any more!

  • Iip albanjary

    Sadly,
the plugin so heavy with many features.
I’m experiencing on stats right now. Yesterday the photon has fail to show the post image

    • http://sushubh.net/ chromaniac

did not get you. stats are not loading for you?

  • http://www.itsdaniel0.com/ Daniel Chenery

Just noticed, custom short URLs are also featured in email subscriptions - brilliant!
(P.S. I pressed the “Load More Posts” button on your homepage, didn’t work)

Edit: I have just noticed the “View Media” option doesn’t work when using non wp[.]me links. I wonder if there’s a fix for this. Hmm
