François Beaufort has yet another scoop related to Chrome.

Apparently, the latest builds of Chrome Canary comes with an option to test the Ash desktop.

This is similar to what Chrome OS uses as desktop environment. Though it is not enabled for Windows 8 users yet. It is also apparently not yet available on OS X. Looks like a feature that is heavily under development right now.

We assume Google plans to offer it through the Canary builds for the developers so that they do not need dedicated Chrome OS hardware to code/test their web apps.
