Microsoft launches so.cl social network for students

Microsoft has finally launched their experimental social platform so.cl. It is powered by Facebook technology so the company is not really looking to develop a competitor to it or other networks like Google Plus and Twitter.

It is not open to everyone. In fact, they have opened it to “students in information and design schools at the University of Washington, Syracuse University, and New York University”.

The company confirmed that they aim to expand this experimental platform to other colleges in the future.

So.cl has been developed by the company’s FUSE Labs and the goal is to let students collaborate together to develop ideas.

Microsoft said:

So.cl has been designed for students studying social media to extend their educational experience and rethink how they learn and communicate. They can build posts with many elements—photos, video, text, and more—and share them with colleagues. They also can find students with similar interests and build communities around specific educational goals. So.cl might even give students the ability to create their own social tool, customized for their own community.
