Mozilla Firefox 18 builds get IonMonkey JavaScript JIT

Mozilla developer David Anderson has announced that they have now turned on support for IonMonkey on their Firefox 18 builds.

IonMonkey is their latest generation JavaScript JIT which should boost the performance of modern web apps in the browser.

Anderson spoke about this new update:

We’re excited about this not just for performance and maintainability, but also for making future JavaScript compiler research much easier. It’s now possible to write an optimization algorithm, plug it into the pipeline, and see what it does.
