China Unicom taste some success with Apple iPhone

China Unicom has announced that they have now sold more than 100,000 iPhones in the Chinese market since its launch in October this year.

This number is not big compared to iPhone sales figures after launch in some other international markets. But it is a decent achievement considering the high price of the device and disabled features (Wi-Fi for example).

Market analyst Mike Disabato is not impressed by the number however. He said: “The iPhone is expensive and most Chinese consumers don’t have that much money. The sales might also depend on what they did to the iPhone to cripple it in China, and of course Apple is not going to tell you anything about that.”

China Unicom is incidentally already switching their focus to Google Android powered devices. These new generation smartphones would be powered by the company’s proprietary UniPlus operating system.
