Opera Software has revealed that they are working on a new mobile browser product named Ice.
The most interesting element of the announcement is that the new browser would be using webkit as the rendering engine instead of their own Presto.
There are also rumors that webkit might eventually end up replacing presto in their desktop products as well. This is not confirmed.
The internet is not amused at this move from Opera. Presto is one of the few rendering engines that have survived the onslaught from webkit in the mobile and desktop market.
Mozilla is sticking with their gecko engine. Microsoft has their own rendering engine for Internet Explorer.
Google Chrome and Apple Safari are the popular browsers based on webkit.
