Forbes has reported that Samsung is planning to merge their own Bada platform with Tizen mobile OS this year.
Tizen is an open source platform based on MeeGo (which itself was based on Maemo) and is supported by both Samsung and Intel.
Bada was expected to go open source this year. But merging with Tizen would be a better move on Samsung’s part.
It would ensure that they do not have to worry about two different platforms with the same goal… a mobile platform for budget segment smartphones.
Samsung has already indicated that they would launch a couple of devices powered by Tizen this year. Remains to be seen how soon the merger takes place.
