Samsung Galaxy S III would not be at Mobile World Congress 2012

The company has indicated that the announcement has been delayed.

Samsung said:

Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012.

The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.

Samsung stays committed to providing the best possible mobile experiences for customers around the world.

There could be many reasons for this. The company probably wanted to hide the details about this phone from Apple. Apple and Samsung are involved in major lawsuits around the world. Apple continues to claim that Samsung steals their design and user interface elements on their devices.

Samsung Galaxy S III would be a very important model for the company. It would be probably the strongest challenger in the Android segment to the Apple iPhone 5.
