Microsoft acquired Skype last year so it is pretty shocking that Windows Phone users still do not have access to an official app for this VoIP service.
Things should change in the coming weeks as the app could finally be ready for launch.
Microsoft and Skype have not revealed any new timeline. They had earlier indicated that the app would be out before the end of 2011. That of course did not happen.
Microsoft’s acquisition of Skype led to many rumors about the integration of this platform with Windows Phone.
We are likely to see Skype become an integral part of WP platform in the coming years. Google Android already supports VoIP calling through SIP. Skype would make the same feature accessible to tons of more users in Windows Phone devices.
