Apple iPhoto for iOS using OpenStreetMap data for some regions!

We have already seen that Apple has been working hard to remove the reliance of their products on Google services.

One of the critical services has been Maps which is used on all iOS devices even today.

But we finally are seeing something being done by Apple on this front. The company has just released iPhoto for iOS and one of the things to notice is that the app is not using Google Maps for some regions (mostly outside the US market).

Instead, Apple is using the maps from OpenStreetMap and that too without any attribution!

OpenStreetMap spoke about this in a blog post and stated that they are looking forward to work with Apple to fix the attribution issue.

Remains to be seen if Apple would expand the usage of OpenStreetMap data in the future or this is just a transition period before they open access to their own proprietary database!
