When Tokyo Ghoul episode 8 begins, Mado is making a plan with Amon to split up their search. Mado believes that he knows where Touka is headed. Amon comments on some extra luggage Mado is carrying, but Mado keeps it a secret.
At Anteiku, Hinami wakes up calling out for her mom. In the other room, Kaneki asks Touka what she has been doing, but she doesn’t say. He wants to help. When she leaves, she hears a noise in the other room and goes to check up on Hinami. She goes in and sees the window open, indicating that Hinami must have escaped.

Following the Trail
Even though ghouls are supposed to have very sharp noses, Touka and Kaneki look everywhere and can’t find Hinami in episode 8. Kaneki gets the idea to look where her mom died, but she isn’t there either. They split up to search. In the next scene, Hinami finally finds what she was looking for. A tote bag with part of her mother’s remains is sitting in an alley. Presumably, she found the bag by its scent, even though Touka and Kaneki weren’t able to do the same. While the two of them are running around, Hinami takes a closer look at the contents of the bag and screams. This alerts Kaneki and Touka to her location.
On his way, Kaneki sees Touka running and then sees Amon running parallel to her. He recognizes him from before and intercepts him before he can reach Touka. Touka finds Hinami, crying and alone, with the bag. She asks what’s in the bag and tries to get Hinami to leave because she realizes that it must be a trap. Hinami refuses, wondering if it is bad to be a ghoul and wanting to be with her mother. Kaneki reveals his new mask for the first time to Amon, Touka hugs Hinami, and Mado appears in front of them.

Parallel Dynamics
Kaneki engages with Amon in episode 8 and starts losing right away. What’s more, he tries to punch Amon in the abdomen, but the strike doesn’t even make him flinch. He must have some sort of anti-ghoul armor. Kaneki attacks again and is knocked away. Touka engages as well but fares better. The chain link-like sword that Mado uses gets caught in the surrounding pillars, immobilizing it. Touka is then able to get in close and throw him into the wall.
Then Amon and Touka start questioning their opponents. Touka asks what it’s like to be preyed upon, and Amon asks if the ghouls feel bad for who they kill. They both ask why their loved ones had to die, and they both blame the other for the evil in the world. Amon knocks Kaneki away and Touka attacks. Mado unleashes his second weapon from his other briefcase, Ryouko’s kagune. It knocks her away and causes Hinami to cry out in shock and despair. Touka starts losing as well. Ryouko’s kagune is too powerful, although it is unclear how it is controlled so deftly and what powers such a large object.
Only a Human and a Ghoul
Kaneki decides that he has to be the one to try and convince the Doves to see things their way in Tokyo Ghoul episode 8. He tells Amon that there are many bad ghouls, but there are many bad humans as well. He thinks that if he can get through to Amon, he can start the healing process between human and ghoul. His strategy seems to be getting hit and then getting back up, blocking Amon’s way without fighting back. After Amon beats him to the point of not being able to stand, he decides to embrace his ghoul side by calling upon Rize.
He dashes forward and takes a bite out of Amon in order to power up. When his kagune comes out, he spars with Amon for a bit until he is able to destroy his Quinque. When Amon is on the ground, Kaneki asks him to run away so that he won’t lose control and eat him. Amon refuses, so Kaneki strikes hard and begs him not to make him a murderer by staying and getting killed. Kaneki knows that he may easily be consumed by his hunger.
Incredible Tracking Stories and Introducing New Faces In Tokyo Ghoul Episode 9
Powered by Sadness, Not Revenge
We finally get to see Hinami’s kagune in Tokyo Ghoul episode 8. Pinned to the wall by Ryouko’s Quinque, Touka tells Mado that she just wants to live like any other creature. She explains that ghouls have no other choice but to eat other humans, and wishes there could be another way. Mado doesn’t care. He has Hinami wrapped in her father’s Quinque and uses the bundle to strike at Touka.
Before the blow can land, Hinami releases her kagune, which is a mixture of the wings from her mother and the whips from her father. She uses it to cut Mado’s hand off. Mado tries again, but this time she cuts his leg off. He gets up yet again, but Hinami doesn’t want to kill him. She doesn’t want to kill anyone, and only fought back because she was sad about her parents and didn’t want their powers to be used to hurt people. Before he can kill her instead, Touka cuts him down. Still alive somehow, he drags his body to them and curses them in his dying breaths. Right before he dies, he says that he has a score to settle with “one eye,” but doesn’t specify who.
Amon thinks about why Kaneki let him go and remembers that he saw him crying. He must vaguely realize that Kaneki wasn’t bad. When he goes to retrieve Mado, he finds the dead body and cries over it.
At the end of Tokyo Ghoul episode 8, Kaneki becomes overwhelmed by his hunger and strikes at a masked Yomo when he appears. Yomo doesn’t resist, but takes off his mask and gives Kaneki some food. On their way home, Kaneki tells Hinami that her mother wanted her to live.
