TRAI: Continues vigil is required to block spam calls and texts

TRAI has admitted that some operators are not doing enough to restrict spammy calls and texts from reaching customers who have subscribed to National Customer Call Preference Registry.

It said: “First of all we must put it in perspective, the number of calls and SMSs have come down drastically. Yes, there are certain people who are receiving it… small percentage may be. But it is necessary to stop this also.”

TRAI added about tackling this small percentage of spam that still goes through: “We are also looking at other measures which we hope to take during the course of one week and that will bring a lot of relief. A continuous vigil is what is required.”
