Tapbots has been forced to remove the free download of their Tweetbot for Mac Alpha.

The company said in a blog post that it was largely due to the new policies implemented by Twitter.

Apparently, they are running out of tokens provided by Twitter to third party apps. The alpha edition was available as a free download and we assume that thousands of people are already using it.

The company said:

Just to be perfectly clear, Tweetbot for Mac will still be available for sale in the near future, we are just stopping the public part of the alpha/beta testing. We wish we could continue on but we didn’t make the rules, we just have to live within them. Again sorry for the hassle and thank you very much to everyone that has provided valuable feedback during the alpha.
