Twitter annoyed with the new social Google Search powered by Google Plus
Google has just launched a brand new social search component on their search engine which is powered by their Google Plus platform.
This is of course bad news for Twitter as more people would be directed to Google Plus to get latest social updates from their friends and relatives.
Twitter spoke about the new enhancements on Google Search:
We’re concerned that as a result of Google’s changes, finding this information will be much harder for everyone. We think that’s bad for people, publishers, news organizations and Twitter users.
Google of course is not amused as it was Twitter that discontinued their licensing agreement for the entire Twitter archive last year which resulted in Google Real Time Search getting discontinued.
Google responded:
We are a bit surprised by Twitter’s comments about Search plus Your World, because they chose not to renew their agreement with us last summer (http://goo.gl/chKwi), and since then we have observed their rel=nofollow instructions.
In any case, Google Plus has just become a whole lot more relevant for a lot of users and we are likely to see a major shift in focus for brands in the future. Twitter locked Google out and they are now going to look at other options to stay relevant on search engines.
