Twitter mobile app no longer mention the names of client used to post a tweet!

Twitter released updates for their mobile apps for both Google Android and Apple iOS devices yesterday.

One of the minor changes made in this update is pretty interesting. Individual tweets no longer mention the name of the client used to post that tweet.

This feature is rather important for the third party app development ecosystem as the name is linked to the app itself allowing users to find out about them.

Twitter web app still points to the apps used for posting individual tweets.

Remains to be seen if they would remove this data from their website as well.

Twitter has been making headlines for their recent moves which are being seen as a threat to the developers of third party Twitter clients. The company has established strict guidelines for third party apps which appear to be one of the first steps in killing the ecosystem completely.

Boid is one good example. Developers behind this Android Twitter app have been denied access to the Site Streams API which is essential for them to deliver real time updates.
