Twitter set to take on Instagram with their own image filters

The New York Times has revealed that Twitter is planning to add photo filters to their mobile apps.

These filters would allow users to modify photos before they are shared on their Twitter timelines.

Popularity of Instagram has shown that people like to enhance their images with filters before sharing them with friends and family.

Google recently acquired Nik Software to gain access to similar technologies. Nik Software’s Snapseed is expected to be launched on the Android platform in the near future. Snapseed is similar in nature to Instagram which is currently the most popular app for sharing photos on mobile devices.

Incidentally, Google Android devices already come with filtering support though this feature is not heavily used because of the poor implementation.

Remains to be seen if Twitter can take away users from Instagram by offering similar features directly inside their own app.
