The internet has democratized a lot of things, not least video editing. All you need right now edit videos is a bog standard computer and an internet connection - and hey presto! you can edit your own videos. There’s no longer any need to download any expensive or confusing software. That’s why today we are looking at the best online video editing software.
PowToon
You know those videos on YouTube that help to explain concepts? Well those can be made easily on PowToon. If you are trying to make a video that teaches something or argues a point, then this is definitely the best online video editing software for you. The only problem is that you are limited to a 45 second video unless you choose to upgrade to their premium version. Boo!
WeVideo
If what you need is a collaboration tool that allows several people to work on a video at once, then WeVideo is the best online video editing software for that.
It’s also fully synced with Google Drive, meaning you won’t need to take up precious space on your hard drive with video edits.
Another nice feature is their Android App which you can use to gather the raw footage for your project.
Wideo
Wideo has a crafty feel which you’ll love if you are in to arts and crafts. You can use it to create regular videos, or to create animated shorts. The animations are created by dragging and dropping different elements in a really intuitive manner. Unlike a lot of other similar websites, you are not limited to using their stock elements. Instead, you can upload your own images, audio files and video footage and play around with them to create something unique. Give it a try and see what you think. It’s one of my favorites, and a definite contender for the best online video editing software.
Kaltura
Kaltura is pretty well renowned and considered to be among the best online video editing software around. And it’s earned this reputation for good reason.
What you’ll get with Kaltura is a professional, commercial level video editor that allows you to beautifully and seamlessly edit videos together to create an astonishing end product.
However, beginners need not be deterred. They’ve designed everything so that even a novice can get a grasp of things in a short time.
Weavly
Next up in our list of the best online video editing software is Weavly.
Weavly allows you to edit and create videos on the fly with a simple but effective drag and drop interface. Use tools like trim, mix and combine to get the final look from your video that you want.
Whats nice about Weavly is that is allows you to easily add video and audio from YouTube, Vine and Soundcloud. This is great for doing mashups, memes or compilation videos. You can also readily import animations and GIFs from the like of Imgur, Loopcam and Tumblr and add these in to the mix. What you’ve got in the end is a powerful tool that makes the best of the melting pot of the internet to meld together great content and create something new.
This flexibility makes it one of my favorites, and a great tool in this modern era where we create partially from sampling and “borrowing” from others.
ShortClip
Shortclip is focused on allowing you to easily edit your videos for maximum effectiveness on social media. Any old amateur can become a whiz in no time with ShortClip. That’s why I like it so much and why I’ve included it in this list of the best online video editing software.
All you’ve got to do is follow the 3 step process in the app or online, and you’ve got a great video ready to go viral.
I find their viewer particularly useful. It breaks down your video image by image in to a little story board so you can see how your video will look.
Magisto
Magisto is another worthy inclusion in our list of the best online video editing software. It can create a beautiful or poignant movie from an every day video. What I like the best is the friendly simple to use interface.
VideoToolBox
This is an excellent tool that allows you to get technical information about your video, including its frame rate, codec, resolution and bit rate. You can also use VideoToolBox to convert your video file to a load of alternative formats. Unfortunately it can only handle 600 MB at a time, but that is still around 40 minutes of standard quality video taken on a webcam. Not bad, for a free tool.
Kizoa
Kizoa has a range of extensive features, all of which will be useful to budding video editors. This includes special effects, transitions, cutting, overlaying audio and music.
WonderShare Filmorama
Despite the corny title, this is actually one of the best online video editing software tools around.
It has all the basics of course, like editing adding test and applying professional effects. It’s these effects that set it apart though, and you can get some really nice results that make it look like you you used a much more expensive piece of video editing software.
Verdict
Today’s teens, young adults and social media junkies are all video editing geniuses now. The rise of social media has meant that video is the new medium of instant communication. We’ve come to the point where our tech is good enough to facilitate decent video editing online.
