We just heard the rumors that The Washington Post might be close to acquiring Digg.

TechCrunch is now reporting that their sources states that The Washington Post is only hiring the engineering team behind Digg and the service is still independent.

The Washington Post and Digg have not commented on these latest rumors.

A talent acquisition would be a much better move by The Washington Post considering the popularity of Digg on the web today!
